Blue Racing Stripes

That does look good! Know what else would look good with those stripes? Big (36"x36") black vinyl Webasto sunroof!

Your comment puzzled me off and on since yesterday. I was thinking "Why does Tony think a sunroof would look good on my GT? Has he been hitting the strong whisky?" And now I get it: you mean I should have a roadster!

Good call. Now I am essentially done with Harold, I feel like selling and starting afresh with a roadster, perhaps a Spitfire, or a TR6/5, or an MGB. I had so much fun tinkering and doing jobs on Harold, it's all a little anticlimactic. Of course there are plenty of little jobs I could do on it still, but it would be gilding the lilly.

I wonder how much I could sell the GT for?

That looks GOOD, Julian! I may need to rethink my aversion to '60's Ford Racing color-schemes... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

Hi Doc, yes I know you were lukewarm about the idea when I floated it before. I think they turned out well, but I'm still unsure whether they should stay. I didn't realise they were Ford colours!

Julian, I think Tony meant exactly what he said about the sunroof. You don't see that many GT's with the optional Webasto sunroof.
And, Tony may just happen to have one of them at his place! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Welcome to the stripe club!

Here are pics of mine with the stripe under the front bumper and behind the license plate (although the stripe is wider of course).

Well, you do need a white roadster with blue stripes to go with that GT....but, I meant exactly that - it would look great with a 36"x36" Webasto black vinyl top on it!

These B's with stripes all look outstanding. A couple of questions...
+ Who is a good source for 6" and (especially) 7" stripes??
+ Can they really be removed without paint damage??

Thanks, jim~ /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Am I the only one who thinks those Webasto sunroofs look like crap? If I were installing a sunroof in my car, I would do it the M.G. way.... Metal! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Are you drifting back to the pre-WWII days, Steve?

My first new GT way back in the 70's while I was a young lieutenant in Germany had a dealer-installed Webasto...wish I still had it but a curve on a back road late at night at high speed ended its life......I'm toying with putting one in my '74-1/2 GT.

I bought mine from 123decals on Ebay:
https://stores.ebay.com/Superior-Graphics-and-Signs-Inc

They have offcuts very cheap, and I got a few of those.

As to if you can remove them without lifting the paint: I don't know! I suspect it wouldn't be so easy to get them off cleanly as claimed.

Any year you like. M.G. always did sunroofs in metal, even after WWII. Canvas / Vinyl sunroofs were an after market item.

If the car fades while the stripes are on it; then you remove them, of course you will be able to tell where the stripes were. On a white car though, that might not be an issue.

Mine are painted on, and get progressively wider from front to back by over 10 inches. They were on the car when I bought it.

Julian, 56 responses so far! Great thread!
