Man, I just really and truly hate it when vendors
try to rip me off with excessive Freight charges.

I Harbor not doubts but they knowingly rip folks off
with wildly excessive Freight charges.

I saw this vendor mentioned a few times here in the
forum and so I sent off for their catalog. I tried to
order $30 worth of small this and that tool stuff all
less than 2 pounds in weight.

This vendor wanted an additional $18.50 in Freight charges
for sending the order via the United States Postal Service
mail barge to the foreign country of Puerto Rico where I
live. Or $60 for Fed-X third day delivery foreign country.
I cancelled my order.

Odd though, the United States Post office at the end of my
street only charged me $7.50 yesterday to ship a few pounds
of paperback books via Priority Mail to friends in
Wisconsin.

And here I thought my US passport says Puerto Rico is part
of the United States.

I hate people trying to rip me off!!

& I agree with you & am Harboring no support for the Freight charges by that vendor...however, when I try to ship something to PR via FEDEX or UPS, they charge international prices!

& the US Post Office requires me to fill out international customs charges!

& everybody seems to charge more for things to go to PR than to come from there (how do I know? I had a return that I paid freight on because the used part wasn't 'acceptable' to the customer)
 
It often costs more to ship out of the country than into it. Check the USPS web site and you may find that it isn't the vendor's fault.
 
You have to remember that there are only 2 ways to get on the island, boat or plane. All shipping companies and airlines know this and take advantage of it by charging the PO an arm and a leg, IF THEY BOTHER TO TAKE IT AT ALL. I don't know about the CN22's. There are some funky rules about shipping things to certain places. If you feel you are getting the short end of a stick, make them prove it. Make them show you why it is so much and why all of these forms need to be filled out. I know you will find it hard to believe but some people in the PO just don't know what they are doing. I know, I know, but it is true. I all honesty, window clerks are expected to know everything and you just can't know ALL the regulation by heart. I did once - refused to fill out all the international forms for a shipment to Puerto Rico - & my post office shipped it for me with just normal US address labels.....package got all the way to Puerto Rico & the local post office in PR returned it to me because it didn't have the correct paperwork!!
 
My son sells and ships lots of car parts on E-bay and has had several buyers from PR. The post office does charge a higher rate. We usually set our shipping charges by using the calculator and weighing the boxes etc. PR prices have been higher than what we asked on every item. What I don't get is why? I shipped some stuff to Hawaii and that wasn't the case. Don't those packages have to go by boat or plane too?
 
$18.50 is a bargain to me!!
 
Guess there's a difference in a self governing unincorporated territory of the United States with Commonwealth status (Puerto Rico) & an actual state (Hawaii)!
 
The odd part to me is: PR is about close enuff to hit with a rock or a spitball, and Hawaii is Waay-th-Far out there. Y'd think it'd be at least as costly to get stuff half way across the Pacific as to toss it at Puerto Rico.

...I think *somebody's* scammin' somehow.
 
Just so I would know I looked up why shipping is so funky to PR. Nuttin! I did calculate a 3 lb package from here to PR. About $10 parcel post. You still have to fill out a CN22 but hey, we can't have it all. I just had 3 lbs of stuff sent to me from MD. $7.02. So $10 not too bad. Wendy just ordered several piece of clothing from Lands End
for our cruise in October. $4.50 shipping.

The worst scam was National Geographic. We were going to
Egypt for a few weeks to see the pyramids, etc. NG had a
great video CD on Egypt. We wanted the CD and paid their
outrageous extra $20. for international shipping. The CD
arrived via United States Post Office with $1.70 in postage
on it.

I don't know if HF is ripping you off or not...I went to my FEDEX account & got a quote for shipping a 2 pound box to PR; here's the quotes I got:

Tue Jul 24, 2007 2:00 PM FedEx International Priority® $43.24
Fri Jul 27, 2007 5:00 PM FedEx International Economy® $23.38
End of day (4 Business Days) FedEx International Ground® $17.43


4 business days, FEDEX International Ground was the least expensive @ $17.43!!

Both FEDEX & UPS consider PR an international address!!
 
The way some of that stuff works amazes me. Yeah, ok - it isn't the USA but I had to send some stuff to and from the DR earlier this year. It was incredible what we had to go through, it literally took two days to do. "Overnight" service back to Florida took a week.
