What's the going cost to get a four cylinder block bored and head shaved down? Thanks.

That will vary depending on your part of the country. It's expensive (like everything else) in the northeast. Get several bids from reputable shops. If they are good, they should all be busy and the prices will be about the same.

I can get blocks bored for about $8 a hole here and flywheels cost me about $35, not sure about heads yet. I'll find that out in a few weeks when I send one to him.

Also, if there are any race tracks in your area, find out where the racers have their work done.
I want to say that I paid $40 per hole, but that amount varies on how much you want/need cut and if the shop needs to buy tools to complete the job. I don't recall head/deck prices.
The crank was about $120. Six cylinder
But as previous stated, prices will vary.

Just curious, are we talking line boring here, or just cylinder boring?

You can't even open a discussion for $8 a cylinder in this area and if I could, I probably wouldn't want that guy doing the work. Setting up a machine and boring a 4 cylinder engine for $32 is unheard of in these parts. Do they have a setup fee?

$35 for a flywheel is about average, depending on the amount of cuts. Could be more. The last one I had done was $45.

The head cost me $125 for getting it to 9.5 to 1 compression, but the valve guides and new seats/grinding was extra.

I'm with Randall, if I get his drift. I would also have the block line bored while it was there.

I would also have it cooked in a hot acid tank and all new expansion and oil galley plugs installed so that the passages all get cleaned out while it's apart.

You can see what I had done starting here: Engine Block Machining

Hi Tim here in jersey i just had my 1300 spitfire block rebored to 30 over at a cost of 180.00 for the bore; the shop has been their doing this kind of work for manny years and is clean as can be.Just as a point the prices are different all over here and this is a very busy shop 60 for a clean decking of the block and 70 to bake it clean ; and don't forget the crank and rods etc. It all adds up fast good luck rick.

I have a long standing working relationship with the machine shop, He doesn't charge me a setup fee. I think after working on so many american V8's he likes something a little different.

Then you are a very lucky guy. Get everything done that you can while he's your buddy!!
