A restored Bristol Blenheim is back in the air.

Allow me to display a little extra interest here: I was born in Blenheim (which is part of the city of Leeds, in Yorkshire).

The photos are fantastic.

Because of its speed, the Blenheim was developed into the Beaufighter, altogether a different beast. The Beaufighter packed a considerable punch, and saw success as both a night fighter and a fighter-bomber. Interesting to see this old warbird take to the skies once again.

Beautiful bird. IIRC, this is a later Mark which had the Mark I nose grafted onto it.

Like many "high speed bombers" that were developed in the 1930s, the new generation of fighters like the Me109 surpassed the performance when war broke out and they suffered high losses. The Blenheim was the RAF's first radar-equipped night fighter, although it's performance was lacking to make it an effective interceptor. The Beaufighter made up for the Blenheim's shortcomings as a night fighter. As a light bomber, it was superseded by the Douglas Boston (A-20) and later the DeHavilland Mosquito. It did make for a very good advanced trainer, and many were made in Canada as the Bristol Bolingbroke.

The wee beastie is all engines!

...and I would like that dorsal Lewis gun mount for Diesela! :adoration:

Nial- Interesting plane but think that would be my last choice to fly in from a bomber group.
Looks pretty iffy on protection

My first thought on seeing the title of the tread was "Is someone throwing apricots?"

Interesting story. Glad to see history flying again.
