Bleeding Clutch M.C.

I rebuilt the clutch m.c. over the weekend as it was leaking into the footwell and now I'm unable to clear the line of air. I had my wife pump the pedal as I crawled under the car to loosen the bleed screw and after a number of attempts I got a few bubbles out but the pedal is still spongy. I can depress the pedal a good inch before it begins to put pressure on the plate. Do these need to be primed after a rebuild? Never had this happen before. Would a vacuum pump, such as a Mighty-Vac, work?

Bleed it up by the master cylinder itself. Use the same procedure as at the slave cylinder, but crack open the line where it goes into the master. This will bleed air from the master. Then you can finish off by bleeding down by the slave.

I always just opened the slave and let it flow (keeping the master filled), until about a can went through the system.

Try pushing the fluid up from the slave cyl. Get a clean pump type oil can and a clean hose. Connect the pump can to the slave fitting. Open the fitting and start pumping. The new fluid will push the air up through the master cyl. Works best with an empty system.
