Hi all does anybody know if the wiper motor mounting plate on a 61 tr3 is painted with black wrinkle or black smooth paint? In addition, does the pipe extension on the heater shut off valve have pipe threads or use a gasket of sort? It is the little stuff that gets me and what I have found is that the vise and the virtue are in the details.

The TRA judging criteria accept either black krackle or silver hammertone paint finishes. See mine in hammertone. Never had a VTR or TRA judge say that mine is not original.

The actual mounting plate is not done in a wrinkle finish, just regular black paint. The wiper motor itself (the middle section, not the end plates) was done in either black wrinkle, or more usually in hammered silver.

I don't know what kind of threads are on the heater valve extension. I put a thin fiber gasket on there, as when I first screwed it in, the hex bottomed out on the valve, so I figured it needed that. No leaks.

Steve: hope this helps. You may want to get a copy of the factory parts catalog. Lots of detail in that book.

good luck,

Hi all and thanks for your help and I do have a copy of that manual somewhere. I think it was Geo a few years back that hooked me up to a link.
