Black Sticky Sound Deadening Stuff

I removed all the sticky black sound deadening material around the gas tank and rear seats with a heat gun the other day and beneath it all, it left a weird geometric pattern on the metal.

Did this material ever have a name?

Can you still buy it, or should you just replace it with Dynamat or something?

I used a foil-backed sticky sealer that is used for house windows. Home Depot and Lowes sells it at a fraction of the cost. Comes in 6 inch widths on a roll.

I heard it called "tarboard" before. I removed mine during my resto and replaced it with "Fatmat".

Cheers,
Tush
