Black Paint For Clutch Cover?

Hi All,

I spent some time today cleaning up and primer coating the passenger-side clutch cover (at least that is what the bag said it was).

It was originally painted black, which a lot of other components (heater box, etc) seem to be.

My questions:

#1. Is the part pictured below, the passenger-side clutch cover, or something else?

#2. What is a good, close-to-original black paint for this part and other black engine compartment parts? Any good, gloss black? Need to be heat resistant?

Not sure what it is but, have had good success with a color called Hot Rod Black - pretty sure it is duplicolor. Not quite gloss. I find that gloss black is too shiny - doesn't match the original quite right.
 
Sem makes the Hot Rod black kit, and is mostly sold in gallon Qtys. Sem also has a Self Etch primer #39673 in flat black that adheres to properly prepared steel and aluminium. The other choice is to go directly to Sem #39143 Trim black (matte finish) that also goes directly to bare surfaces (properly prepared of course).
 
That is the pedal hole cover for opposite side drive cars.
And like the pedal box, it was originally painted (dipped) semi gloss black.
Rustoleum now makes a double coverage spray paint, I love this stuff!
1 coat and it is covered. You can give it 2 coats and make the paint flow as if you were spraying it from a gun.
It comes in gloss or semi gloss, maybe flat too, I only use the gloss and semi gloss.

Yes. It's the sheet metal cover that acts as a "blanking plate" for the clutch and brake pedal opening on the right hand side of North American cars (above the passenger's feet).

Spridgets are made "universal" so that pedals, steering and other parts can be fitted to either side of the car.

In the UK, the pedal cluster is fitted to the right side of the car and this plate covers the opening that would be open on the left side of the car.

Rustoleum, all the black on Miss Agatha is Rustoleum.
 
Eastwood makes a Chassis Black that would surly work also, seems like the last time I was in the box auto parts they had chassis black
 
You all just pointed out something that I had over looked, sure enough that plate was black in my 65 origionally when I look back over the pictures, the metallic blue will have to go. For anyone starting a project grab the digital camera and photograph everything you can for future reference.

I used Rustoleum primer on it, and so I will grab a semi-gloss black Rustoleum to finish it off!

Yes, indeed. I have been taking pictures of EVERYTHING, and blogging it to preserve the memories digitally.
 
Save a bit of time for yourself, Rustoleum does not need primer, in fact it seems to adhear better without it.
