Black or Purple - what colour is more sellable

Partner has just started restoring an MGB and currently its purple with red interior. What is the opinion out on the best colour to respray, if looking to resell the car quickly?

I recommend he sprays it black with beige interior, classy and suitable for both the male and female market.

Red is not an option as he is already selling another one in this colour.

Thanks for your help.

Mornin'!

We have a '73 roadster in Black Tulip (purple) with tan interior and top, and it suits us. It is a striking color, and one either is drawn to it, as we were, or not. Not much middle ground. It's not that common so you won't see many of them. And with our being LSU fans (purple and gold)...

Nor will you see many black ones, and black is a lot more neutral with regard to the appeal factor. Since it's for sale, I'd think you'll probably have more interest in the black.

I'd agree with Mickey on this one. If the car was originally purple, then there is some value in doing the restoration to original specs -- but there will be a smaller market for that color. Black is definitely a more neutral color, and looks good on an MGB.

I would actually be inclined to keep the red interior if it is nice - black exterior (or Olde English White) with a red interior will always be classic.

Black with red interior is a nice combo.
