In my through Nick Veuger modified Midget 1275, my alternator blew up several times now. The Diode-bridges went down, my mechanic said. What is goning on? All wires are new, Ignition is 123. Suddenly my mecanic saw a black box, deeper down the engine bay, connected to the system. Nobody understands the meaning of it. Is my Midgy connected to the NSA? Is someone following me from behind a screen? What did Nick Veuger do? 20140426_101616000_iOS.jpg
 
Can you post pictures of the black box and list each wire color connected to the box?

A wild guess here, but I bet the black box is the voltage regulator which is normally bypassed in a generator to alternator conversion. Alternators (ones im families with) have built in regulators and the original is not needed.

That's what I was wondering about. There were a handful of early Lucas alternators that used external regulators but they are not common.

EDIT: The early alternators with remote regulator (might be a 15AC) were made around 1968 and some sources report they had an external regulator called a 4TR. See the link below for schematics and information.

Something is definitely amiss with the wiring if it is blowing out the diodes. The alternator should feed directly to the battery and the old regulator eliminated.
