BL badges on front wings

Hi,

Wondering on the correct placement of the British Leyland badges on the front wings of the 1976 TR6. Is there one on each wing, left and right? My TR6 has only one on the right wing and none on the left. I know the body panels are original as is the paint. The paint on the wing fasteners have never been broken above or below on the clips, nor has the paint been broken on the bonnet hinges. I've looked at many pictures but nothing conclusive. Any ideas?

Thanks -- Steve

the Layland built TR6's here had the badges low and centred between the wheel arch and door on each front fender. I removed mine for painting and have not put back the new ones yet. I have some pics at home which I will scan and post tomorrow.

Hi Steve. The placement of the BL badges on the TR6 was arbitrary and capricious. Some, none, right, left, both. There is no correct number, just the placement and if you have one, original, that is where it belongs. The fact is, I think they put these things on during smoke breaks.

I put mine on after the paint job before researching it. Mine are actually way too high up on the fender from the original position. (but hey it's a driver)

/bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/lol.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/iagree.gif One of the rumors is that the guy on the right side of the car would leave for his break early, so there were several with only the left badge.

According to a former factory employee... they all left the factory with the badges but very few made it to the dock with all the badges intact. Evidently, there was an adhesive issue and it took a while for them to set up. He said there was a section of road between Coventry and the shipping docks where there are a lot of Leyland badges still littering the ditches.

I don't like the Leyland badges and didn't put them back on my TR6. I feel the same way about GM now putting on little GM badges on all of their products. Branding the corporate identity onto everything.

looking thru the book 'Triumph TR6' by William Kimberley. Badges are generally bottom rear corner of front fenders, to no badges.
Here is a pic from the book anyway, for your info. This seems to be the general area to fix the badge in place.
