My windows rattle a lot when down and when I raise them up they don't come up straight. The back of the windows ends up about an inch lower than the front when raised.

Yeah, that sounds about right to me. :smile:

Just kidding, you'll have to remove the door panels to get to the mechanisms involved. You'll find loose or missing bolts for the window channels. Maybe missing the plastic clips that ride inside the channels to hold the window in the channels. Also check the strips on the top of the door panels, probably need replacing. Look in the MOSS catalog for all the parts mentioned. Expect to spend about a day to fix, not too hard to do.

Yup, Johnny is spot on.
Note that even when the windows are adjusted for the best fit when up, wind noise, water sealing etc, the windows will rattle a bit when in the down position. When the glass is in the door, the rear edge does not have the white plastic tabs on the top edge of the glass, allowing it to vibrate.

I too suffered from rattling window syndrome for years in my BJ8. I tried all the usual cures: new nylon channel guides, new rubber/fur sealing strips, etc. Finally took the door panels off one last time in frustration and found the cure: the rear metal channel in the door was slightly too wide. It appears to have been that way since manufacture. I took a pair of channel-lock pliars and gently squeezed the channel closed--not too much or the window would bind in the channel. When just right, the window will still roll up and down easily enough--albeit with slightly more effort than before--but the rattling with the window down was completely gone. Note: the driver side window was always worse than passenger side--I assume there was variation in the metal channel pieces from the factory.

Cost of repair: $0 and an hour's time. Value: immense.
