BJ8 Top

Finished my BJ8 Finally! The old top was removed during the restoration without ever being folded down. Is there a drawing /instructions for folding down the top to avoid pinching or damaging it? Need to do it correctly to fit the boot?

Appreciate any info.

Thanks R&M /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

R&M there are two ways to do it: 1} fold the rear window down into the space behind the squab just like the fabric is done. 2} Zip out the rear window first and tuck it behind the squab and then finish folding the fabric in.In either case do not put undue force on the top when folded down to get the hood {Boot} cover on or the sticks will eventually punch a hole in it.---Fwiw---Keoke

Keoke, Thanks! I just put on a new sunfast top & don't want to take any chances /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

Congrats on your new Sunfast top. I had one fitted 4 years ago and I love it. But I've only seen it twice in 4 years

One of the projects I need to tackle on my BJ8 is an ugly gap between upper windscreen frame and front end of top when closed (front view) - what is the correct remedy here ? Do I have to move the windscreen frame further back or is something wrong with the top installation ? Many Thanks.

Hi HLY3000, There is a rather large rubber seal that is part of the front closure between the bow and the top of the windscreen frame.Perhaps it has perished or is missing. Additionally, the bow may be severly warped---Fwiw---Keoke ??

Good day, nice to hear someone from Germany. I don't think there's an easy fix for your problem. On reassembly of my car I had to bend the top frame (quite easy BTW) and adjust the windscreen at the same time. Eventually it fit perfectly but that was during reassembly. You might have to disassemble the front of the top and loosen the windscreen to get it to fit right without having to add lots of rubber gaskets. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Thanks Keoke and Johnny - I hope some frame / mounting adjustments will do - touching the top assy ( front bow etc.) is something I will have to leave for a specialist.
