BJ8 Steering column strut

On my BJ8 there is a strut from the steering column to the door post behind the dash board - (cannot see it on either the Mechanical bits list or Body bits list) that gets in the way of the speedo cable. OK the cable will go in the back but has to take a slightly kinked path.

It 'looks' as though it's flat edge should be horizontal rather than as it is now (vertical) and is just a matter of loosening it a rotating - but which way should it be?

As the speedo has come out for a refurb as the trip and the oddometer were vastly different (10.3 true miles, 18 oddometer miles and 13 trip miles !!!) I suspect that the previous owner may just have put the strut in wrong like he must have assembled the speedo from a bag of various bits <g>

Andrew,
Check out Body Service Parts List AKD 3524 Plate A4. It shows the Steering column steady bracket (16 on the illustration)with the flat of the bracket in a vertical orientation.

Cheers,
John

HI Andrew, adjust the bracket so that it allows the speed-o cable to align with the speed-o input with out kinking and reduce wear on the cable jacket.-FWIW---Keoke

John,

I searched high and low for that illustration !!!! If the ends are bent at 45 degrees as per the picture (hard to see with your head upside down under the dash with bi-focals!) then it couldn't be rotated anyway
