BJ8 OverDrive

The overdrive on my BJ8 has always worked well. Had the console and dash replaced and while out something may have happened in some wiring got messed or loose. OD is inconsistent now.

I want to try to reach in and see if I can find some loose wire somewhere. The shop that did the dash work is too far (300 Miles for me to drive to)

Any advice where or what to look for?

Thanks

More details on what the inconsistency is would be helpful. For example, does it engage all the time then disengage unexpectedly, or does it not engage sometimes? Do you have a wiring diagram? The dash switch sends power to the OD relay which then powers on the OD solenoid if the transmission is in 3rd or 4th gear. Once the solenoid is activated, hydraulic oil pressure takes over. So, please explain the symptoms more.

The latter.. it does not engage sometimes. When it does all works well and it switches on and off.

That is what I thought... When the shop put in the new dash, they must have pulled something...

Shows you much a software engineer knows about Healeys:eek:

Using a length of wire from a 12 volt battery source (negative post if you have positive ground), touch the OD relay connection where the wire from the dash switch is connected. Make sure gear shift is in 3rd or 4th. If you hear the solenoid click every time you touch the "hot" wire, then you have isolated the problem to the dash switch or the wires connecting it to the OD relay.
