BJ8 losing power and enguine dies

Been driving the BJ8 and has been fine. This weekend while out for a drive and after a stop, the she did not fire up right away as usual. I did not make much of it. Further down the road, I can feel the car losing power slowly as if she was choking. The accelerator did not do much good and would not rev up. Engine eventually died and the car came down to a stop. I restarted the car and barley made it home. Next day I took it out and she drove just fine.

I thoughts were fuel pump issues but not sure at this point. The pump clicks twice upon a cold start and that is it.

Thoughts ideas?

Well, check the easy things first! Disconnect the fuel line and see if there is good unrestricted fuel flow, could be a clogged fuel filter. Check the point gap and condtion of the points, I had a situation like your describing and found it was a bad set of points even though they only had 500 miles on them. Many of the tuneup parts are cheap garbage you get these days including, caps, rotors, coils, condensers and so on. Sounds like a simple problem to me, but sometimes even tracking and process of elimination can be very frustrating. Don't overthink it and just check the easy things for now, also check if you are getting a healthy spark at the plugs so you can separate electrical/ fuel issues. Check Loose wires and so on.

thanks so much. I will check both. A fact to consider is that the car has gone through a nut & bolt resto in 08

Just because your particular Healey has undergone a nut and bolt restoration does not exempt it from the little nagging things that could go wrong such as defective tuneup parts or other items such as new fuel pumps. Even the most expensive exotics need some bugs exterminated. As I was saying in my first post, most likely a very simple issue. Just a matter of intelligently going about the process of elimination and testing separate systems. In this case, most likely fuel/electric systems. Do you still have the original points ignition set up? Or converted to electronic ignition?

Your most welcome, please keep us posted on what you find! That electronc ignition is jumping out at me because of past reviews good and bad! I'm sure their are folks in this forum that can help you trouble shoot it in detail if that is found to be the problem. Take care!

the verdict is in and wanted to share the fix and thank you all.

It was a cracked distributor cap after all and you y'all have suggested. Back on the road and thanks again..
