BJ8 Interior Panels - Just Curious

As I'm gluing the vinyl for under the passenger side kick panel I'm wondering what is the purpose for the big opening in the panel versus the driver side, which is a solid panel. I can't see anything under the vinyl that would drive the need for this. Does anyone know the answer to this?

On another note, the interior is almost complete and I wanted to thank the great folks on this list for the information I found in the archives and the answers to questions posted. The dash facia looks great and the carpet went in beautifully.

Thanks All!

The big opening. Good question Drew. I have wondered that myself when I installed my interior. OK, who's gonna be the first to answer? Any bets on Keoke?

If you were driving a RHD version of the car, your throttle pedal foot would appreciate the extra clearance.

That'd be my guess, especially the way the tried to conserve and use the same parts for both LHD and RHD.

Keoke, Dave R, or Reid will know
