BJ8 Interference engine?

Does anybody know, if the BJ8 engines are interference engines? Those engines will be destroyed, if for example the timing chain fails, because the pistons will then hit the valves.

I understand the intake valves extend outside the diameter of the cylinders, so on a stock engine there is no possible interference for the intake valves.
 
Thanks John, if this is true for the intake valves it might be true for the exhaust valves as well.
At least I hope so. Because yesterday I cranked the engine for a few cycles without the timing chain mounted. But fortunately I didn't hear any "bang", so I figuered the pistons didn't hit any valve. I did a compression test and everything was fine. So may be the valves really don't interfere with the pistons.

Is there nobody out there who really knows whether BJ8 engines are interferent or not?
I don't think it would be a good idear to just try it, because that could ruin the engine completely.

What Bob was saying is you would have known quite clearly if a piston hit a valve. No need to worry if you did not hear metal hitting metal! There is also no need to worry about it of you have the timing chain hooked up. I've never heard that these are interference engines.
