BJ8 Heater Box - Suggestions

Hello All:

With a dash refininshing project underway, I noticed some green copper looking corrosion around the control valve for the heater, which has leaked onto the top of the Heater Box. The box appears to be in good shape and not leaking from within at all, but I was wondering if the box top is black like the rest off box itself, mine has a layer of light corrosion and dust so I can't really tell?

I have the replacement temp control valve, and was wondering if anyone has had success replacing the valve with the heater still mounted? Any other tricks or cautions taking this unit apart? I understand that there is an adapter and an O-ring that have to go in the right order. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/canpatriot.GIF

Is it better to take the time, remove all the hardwear, mounts and hoses from the box. It

My understanding is that you can only change the valve on the BJ8 with the dash off. My source is that my dealer when I bought my BJ8 and had the interior re-trimmed advised me to have the valve replaced as when the dash went back it would be impossible. I don't believe they had to remove the heater to do this. So far I have had no reason to doubt what they told me (Murray Scott-Nelson of Scarborough)

Hi Andrew1, Yes you can replace the heater control valve on the BJ8 car without pulling the dash,Adequqte working room can be obtained by removing the Tach and Speedo to get it out and back in.However, this method is not as convient as having the unit on the bench. The heater box is painted black top and bottom.---Fwiw---Keoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/patriot.gif
