I've had an oil seal go bad on one of the half-shafts on my BJ8. Anyone know of a place to buy a bearing nut socket (2-3/16ths?) or a tried and true method to remove the bearing nut?

You can buy one from AH Spares: https://www.ahspares.co.uk/austin-healey/big-healey/Rear-Axle/SPANNER-hub-nut.aspx?¤cy=USD. The main reason for using the socket is to be able to tighten the nut to 100 - 150 lb-ft when replacing. Also remember that one side is left-handed thread.

i was able to remove mine with a large set of channel lock pliers. you can get a good grip on the nut and the handles will fit between the lugs.
if you go the socket route, i believe it is a 8 sided nut. i got a 12 point one from amazon, i think, that worked well to tighten it back up. i could get it to 75 ft/lbs before it slipped off. but that was it. i can tell you that is much tighter than it was though.
the driver side wheel is a left handed thread.

oh and one other thing.
there are some previous threads on this.
it was recommended to me to change the bearing also as it has probably spun and caused the seal to get hot. i replaced both the seal and the bearing. i also did not replace the paper seal on the hub. i just used sealant.

Thanks for the info. I have ordered the tool from AH spares and also ordered the wrench that Moss carrys. I had previously ordered a bearing as I figured since I was going to all the trouble I might as well replace the bearing as well.

I am not familar with the face of the socket that AH Spares sells but some socket ends are radiused and can slip off the thin bearing nut.
A trick is to surface grind the end of the socket perfectly flat so that it has full contact with the nut.
There is a lot of torque going on here
