quote : thank you very much for your reply patrick. all number plates and identification have been removed from this vehicle.registration papers were given but these do not line up with the changes to the vehicle eg dual indicators lights, half inch crackshaft pulley(fan). have contacted steve byers as suggested just now.the car was bought ten years ago in houston texas and brought to south australia. i am rebuilding it from scratch.

he still hasnt got the chassis number to my belief.

saltiga,
the Healey Factory in Melbourne should be able to help you.

Hello saltiqa,

As pan said "The Healey Factory" in Melbourne on (03) 9872 3900 is probably the easiest.

If you're in the SA Healey club wouldn't someone there be able to help.

What part of SA are you in?.

Best regards,

bundyrum.

in Adelaide. spoke to members of the sa healey club yesturday and surprisingly no one seems to know the size of the fan belt, only that theyre 1/2 or 3/8. the healey factory sell em for $14.20 + gst but wont give the size. the point is if i have a break down out bush n i need to replace the belt. yes i should carry a spare one and also once i get one i caqn then measure it. just surprises me that no one knows such a simple thing is all.

Hello saltiqa,

I know I shouldn't be saying things like this but why not get one from The Healey Factory then take it into the nearest "supercheap" and see if you can match it.

I'd say that $14.20 + GST is worth it if you need one.

I'm not surprised that people don't know what length the belt is, maybe they're not that interested in that sort of thing. Yes there are people like that.

No I don't know the length of mine either but I could soon find the part no pretty soon if I needed to.

Do some of those people know if they have one you could borrow to get one for yourself?.

Best regards,

bundyrum.

I don't have a standard engine  but if some of you could go to your garages and first measure the top width of the belt and then put a piece of string around the circumference and measure the piece of string then I can tell you the common industrial reference.

It would be nice to get both the 3/8" and 1/2" in one go and then you can all stop paying inflated prices for basically standard vee belts. :nopity:

Hello saltiqa,

I just looked in the BJ7/BJ8 parts book and it says the 3/8" (9.5mm) belt is 44" (111.76cm)long.

There is no length for the 1/2" (12.7mm) one just a part no.

What part of Adelaide?

Best regards,

bundyrum.

Hello Frankenhealey,

No it doesn't. I'm not aware of any manual that would but that doesn't mean to say there aren't out there.

Does a new belt tell you where the length is measured?

Best regards,

bundyrum.

Hello saltiqa,

I lived in Elizabeth Downs from 1978-1984 whilst in the RAAF.

Who did you buy the BJ8 from. There were barely a handfull in Adelaide at that time.

Best regards,

bundyrum.
