BJ8 Drain Channel Removal

Hi guys,

Has anyone removed the drain channel under the rear hood without dismantling half of the car?

It seems almost impossible as the rear shroud is keeping it in place and I would not like to bend it up.

Regards & thanks for your hints.

When myHealey was painted the shop forgot to reinstall the drain channel and they twisted it and reinstalled it. No problem if you have to have help, more than two guys, lol.

Wow
That must have been some wrestling match, I have discussed methods with Bill Rawles and apparently it is possible, but you still have to lift the shroud up a bit at the front. Charley said remove the shroud and get at it that way. I am in the process of rebuilding the back of my BJ7 and for various reasons I removed the shroud. I am currently torn between trying to repair the original drain channel which I thought was reasonably ok until I had it blasted, or to replace it with a new one which I bought some years ago. The new one does not fit properly and so far I have managed to wrangle the back of it into something like the correct shape by jamming it into an opening in the coping of a brick wall and pulling it around to ease the large bend a bit and comparing it with an MDF template that I have made. The two corner bends now need attention but with the cold wet winters we have here I am waiting for spring. Regarding the original one, I have tried welding some of the newly discovered holes with some measure of success but there is a matter of the weld bumps inside the channel area which will be a pig to grind down, I have an idea to remove the front of the channel ( it is an add on anyway and replace it once the bed of the channel has been sorted) alternatively I could patch it with P7 but that would be a bodged job. Sorry to have pirated your thread but it kind of fits in places.

Bob
