while puting strong pressure on the brake pedal, it stays strong, but as soon as I loose a litte bit my foot pressure, the pedal starts to loose pressure and goes down slowly loosing braking prower. As I release the pedal I can start braking normally again.
SOmetimes it sounds like pshhh as if it was loosing the pressure.

Re: bj8 braking problem

Hi Mahave, Check the Master Cylinder out it sounds like it is failing.---Fwiw---Keoke

Re: bj8 braking problem

Hello Jose, I think very soon you will have a wet carpet inside the car from the leaking fluid. Then you will know that it is the master cylinder. Seriously it does sound like there is a leak. Or the flex hoses at the front wheels and the rear axle housing could be oozing fluid. But from the way you discribe the way your pedal is acting I'd think it is the master cylinder. Have fun changing it, it is a bear to get out. by the time you finish putting in the new one, you will probably want to sell the car. BUT, don't do it, this is suppose to be a hobby. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif

Re: bj8 braking problem

I have not done this on a big Healey (yet, I carry the rubber replacements in my spares box). On my MG and Jag I was able to remove and replace everything from under the dash, through the fire wall. Even honing. Would this be possible on the BJ8?

Re: bj8 braking problem

Mahave, My BJ8 master cylinder failed this spring so I rebuilt it. As vette says, it was a bear! I had to remove the rear air filter to get at it - slow process. Getting at the pin under the dash isn't something you want to do on a full stomach.

Re: bj8 braking problem

Well Sarge it is a bit pesky, but no point in scaring that other fellow to death.Besides the Brake master is the easy one ,wait til the Clutch goes then tell me about it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif---Keoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Clutch cylinder very good chalenge /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

Re: bj8 braking problem

!!! when I have looked inside the car, the brake master cilinder wasnot dropping, but the clutch master cilinder was !!!
I have removed both master cilinders and ordered repair kits. As soon as I will receive them I will let you know how it worked.
By the way, am I supposed to bleed the brake circuit and clutch circuit once Ihave it mounted back??

Re: bj8 braking problem

Hi Jose, Yes the two systems will require bleeding after you get the rebuilt cylinders hooked back up.---Fwiw---Keoke
