BJ8 Brake Booster mount

Hi All, Seasons greetings.
After many hours of searching through the forum and pictures of cars being restored I need a little help. It turns out a PO has at some stage replaced the RH footwell , and then remounted the brake booster in the wrong place. I discovered this when I went to fit a spin on oil filter adapter and there is not enough room for the filter between the adaptor and the large flat face of the brake booster. I'm going to move the brake booster back to its correct position (more outboard) and need to know the correct location of the mounting bracket holes in the footwell. Can someone tell me the measurement from the inner sill inboard face........ to the outboard mounting bracket lower hole.

Looks like I will need to make up some new brake lines and bleed the brakes etc..... What was going to be a simple job of fitting a spin on filter will just take a little longer!!

How are the Mtg plates secured to the foot well botom, now???

Managed to get a picture so you can see where it is mounted now. Its bolted to angled face of the footwell by 4 bolts. I suspect the outboard mounting bracket should be flush against the sill?
 
Well I really can not tell what has happened there. However, if you want to move the booster outboard you might get a set of toilet bolts or blind nuts which you can install from inside the car and are thin enough to fit under the carpet and allow you to anchor the mounting plates in the desired location.????
 
Hi Paul,
Before you drill new holes in your footwell, there are some alternatives you may want to consider. What type of filter are you using? K&N makes a couple sizes. The one most people use is the 2009 filter, however the 2008 will also fit but is about a half inch shorter. The 2008 doesn't have the anti-drain feature. The filter Denis Welsh shows in their conversion kit looks even shorter than the 2008 though that may be a stock photo, not what you'd get in the mail.

Moving along, you could install a remote filter. Limora (for one) sells parts for that. look for part #'s 329007 and 14277 on their site. The nice thing about the remote setup is you won't spill any oil when you change filters. Randy Forbes made a remote adapter similar to that one.

It may have been here on the forum, I recall someone putting the spin-on adapter on the end of the filter assembly. So when they painted the filter engine green, it looked almost stock.

Last suggestion from me would be to make some new brackets for the booster and use the existing holes in the footwell. That is what I did when I replaced my booster with a PBR unit. I made the base of the bracket wider so I could offset the holes more than the stock brackets. Here's a photo of that.

Thanks for all the suggestions, Still keen to look at moving the mounts to where the factory had them. For those with original boosters, when you look from the engine bay directly down on top of the booster where does the flat face line up with the chassis rail (see photo). Mine is currently lined up with the centre weld of the rail, should it be further outboard or is it in the right place?

Just checked my BJ8 with Girling servo and original mounts. The 'face' of the booster is pretty much exactly in line with the outer side of the chassis rail as seen from directly above (i.e. about a half chassis rail width outboard of where yours is). There is no gap--it's kind of like the face of the servo could be 'stacked' on the side of the chassis.

"Elevator" bolts work good and have a wide, thin head to them. They are 1/4 x 20 threads which are next size down, but, do work good.
