BJ8 Battery Support Wood Block is it 3/4" or 3", ours is 3"?

We have a 64 BJ8 early phase II, 28207 Vin. The original wooden battery support in the right rear trunk (boot) as removed from the car is 3" thick. Moss catalog says they were 3/4" up to Vin 76139 (Moss #031-411) and then were 3" (Moss 031-423).

What changed, why the difference?

Why would ours be fitted with a 3" support when it is suppose to be 3/4" Putting the 3" support in the car pushes the battery out further than necessary, 3/4" would be perfect giving more space. We have converted to negative ground and the battery group is I-24. Group 24, I was advised is the correct size.

If this matters, our car was an "export car" delivered to Germany for that market. Somehow it found its way here.

So I am thinking of cutting mine support down with a table saw unless someone wants mine for fitting to what appears to be latter BJ8s. If so let me know and I will sell it for the price of a new 3/4" support.

Thanks

IMOP a 3" block is just wasting a little boot space.
I cut mine down in my 66 BJ8's years ago.

Battery size did not change in the later BJ 8's

I agree, waste of space, but curious as to why the later BJ8s had the larger spacer. Might it have to do with maybe a larger style of upper turn signal inside fixture which would require pushing the battery out further, or did the latter BJ8s go to a much larger battery size.

Still curious why mine has the big one.

IIRC, always with caveat, that there were batteries manufactured that had a large horizontal notch in one side, where the larger wood spacer would nestle just so. Since this type/brand of battery is not available any more, I cut my wood spacer down as well.

While you're at it, consider cutting down the blocks for the spare tire, especially if you are running larger wheels/tires. You might have a small spare but if you put the spare on the car your road wheel has to go somewhere.

I took the wood block out. With 6" rims and 185/70 tires it's the only way the (same size) spare would fit. With the boot lid down the wheel ain't going anywhere (esp. with all the spare parts, tool box, etc. in the boot).
