BJ8 Ashtray

I don't have an original ashtray for my BJ8, and I have never looked at one closely, but I was wondering two things...

- Are original ashtrays easy to dis-assemble/re-assemble to allow for replating?

- Are repro ones from the likes of AH Spares distinguishable from originals / of good quality?

Thanks  Dave

I have a repo that another person bought from MOSS, I think. They buy most of the plated stuff from AH Spares. In my opinion, it looks just like the original except no scratches in the chrome.

Dave,
The main rotating cover is reivited to the body and the ash container lid is rivited to the ash container so you can dump out the ashes. To have an origional replated would probably cost you twice what a repo sels for. Hope this helps and have a good day!

The repros are quite good, but just for info the same part was fitted to Healeys and Jags, if you search ebay uk (jaguar ash tray) there is a couple listed at the moment for mk2 jag, etype and healey

cheers Andy
