BJ7 windshield to scuttle bolt.

There is a mount for a bolt to connect the center of the windshield to the dash. My info says it uses a "set screw" however, on my car, there is nothing available to screw into, only a hole through which to run the set screw (which does not go completely through to the interior under dash.

I imagine that if I drilled completely through I could run a bolt and put a nut on it to secure the windshield but I wonder what the correct method is.

Any ideas?

On the BJ7 and BJ8 there is a rubber T nut with a threaded metal insert inside that goes into the dash and then a maching screw attaches the windshield bracket to this T nut. The rubber T nut is available from British Car Specialists. Hope this helps and have a good day!

Hi John,
If this is what you're referring to, it is a well nut. Most hardware stores will carry them.

Hi Robert,
Way to go Greg. Photos are so helpful. I found mine at the local OSH (Orchard Supply Hardware). About 1/3 the price, and no shipping cost, which sometimes cost more than the item.

When tightening up the bolt, do not tighten too much or you may strip the threaded inseart from the rubber base. How do I know this?

I believe the originals use a fine thread (28?) but the ones you find in the hardware store are a coarser thread. Not a big deal but something to consider if you want to use the original bolt.

When ever I buy anything from the Hardware store I always buy the mate. Bolt, lock washer, washer and nut. Some hardware I'll buy in stainless too. Like the bolts that hold the bump boxes in the wheel well.
