BJ7 Ride Height

My BJ7 has just come home after a seven year restoration (don't even ask)and is a real beauty. I have one issue, however. I think the ride height is too high. Measured from the ground to the top of the wheel arch is 26 1/2" in the front and 28" in the front. In addition, I worry that if I have the car lowered,I'll have a problem with the reduced road clearance. Any thoughts?

Your worry is well founded.

Most Healeys suffer from marginal ground clearance. However, since your car is fresh from a rebuild, I would recommend you let the springs bed in before you try to alter the ride height.-Fwiw--Keoke

Tony,

I agree that you should wait a bit before trying to correct the ride height. Is the problem mainly in the front? The new front springs for my BT7 came with a warning that they weren't exactly like the originals. Sure enough, it rode maybe an inch high. I solved it by adding spacers (just machine nuts) and using longer bolts so as to space the lower spring pans down. I use 1/2" spacers, and the ride height came down about an inch --- just right!

Hey Tony, just up the street from you in Sacramento. Here is my BJ7.

Thanks so much. That answers my question. I think the front of my car is high, but it's probably because I have a Dennis Welch aluminum head , an aluminum radiator and Dennis Welch headers. I've attached a photo, but really just so I can show off the car. It came home Saturday after a six year restoration.

Where is the photo?

For some reason (mainly my own stupidity), I can't seem to figure out how to do it.
