Hi Guys

After several posts regarding rear view mirrors and the dashboard, I am having to replace the dash board as I damaged the original after accidentally falling into the tonneau cover whilst retrieving my mobile phone from the glove compartment. The peg pulled out so I removed the dashboard only to find that it was in a very bad state. I have ordered a new one, but having placed my order I have found that a PO had used some long self-tappers as the screws that hold the rear view mirror. There are captive nuts under the front shroud. It looks as if my 2BA tap wants to go in, but I guess that the threads are slightly damaged by the self-tappers. Before I start can anyone confirm that the threads are indeed 2BA? I see that a previous thread mentions 2BA, but it was not very positive about it.

And on another note, I have just broken the left hand quarter light glass. ARRRRRGGGG. It looks as if AH Spares no longer stock them, but I will contact them tomorrow to make sure. Has anyone a source on this side of the pond, England?

Bob

Bob,

The screw part number is RMP0312, so it's UNF. Chrome, raised (oval head) countersunk Pozidriv screw, 3/16" diameter, 3/4" long (10-32).

Bob, you might keep an eye on Ebay your side. There is a right side quarter light glass for sale currently in the USA.

Bob,

You might also think about replacing your mirror stalk with a taller one (I think AH Spares carries them) Other folks use a riser under the standard stalk. This is to avoid the blindspot when the top is down. I cobbled together an MGB rod and base with an E-Type day/night mirror to avoid the problem. > BJ-7/8 Rear View Mirror Day/Night Mirror <

The riser with the small clock in is a nice touch . Not sure if they are still available . The screws are #10x32 to hold it on .

Tom's Import Toys has them:

Thanks for all your useful tips etc.

An update.

I probably bought one of the first long stalks for the mirror way back in 2002 when I first had the car. but did not think about the screws at that time, being a bit of a novice then. Come to think of it I still am or would not have broken the quarter light glass

AH Spares definitely do not stock the quarter light glass for the BJ7 and 8 any more. But :-

Ahead4Healeys do,
I have ordered one with some other bits as well, and I am now taking out a second mortgage :bananawave:

Bob
