BJ7 Rear Disc Brake Setup

Hello,

I am looking at rear disc brake options for my BJ7. I am doing this because I like the look, I do realize that the stock rear drums work excellent.
I have looked at Denis Welch kit, looks nice but very expensive. Was thinking if I purchased the disc brake adapters from one of the suppliers I could then use XJS jaguar calipers, not sure who's rotors fit.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks Phil

I use the CapeSport kit and while I am pleased with the product, those Jag calipers are heavy. CapeSport now has a second edition product that has lighter calipers and it appears to have an improved handbrake mechanism. Check it out. Let us know what you end up doing.

Hello Lin,
I had a look at Capes kit ,looks good, just a little more then what I wanted to spend. I may go that route in the end. Sent a PM to Richard, will look at his product.I converted my sprite to rear disc brakes, the total cost was about $ 700.00, that included at $150.00 cable for the park brake.

I have the Denis Welch kit with a Nissan B210 master cylinder that engages the front discs first, which provides good front/rear bias. My only problem is the handbrake as others have noted.

Hello John,

Did the Nissan 210 Master cylinder fit ok or did you need to do some cutting
Thanks Phil

It fit quite well. If I recall correctly, I used the old push rod, the mounting holes are almost the same as the Girling MC on my BN4.

It is a dual circuit MC with the tubing coming out the bottom. I made two short (~12") sections of tubing from the MC to unions so I didn't have to try to connect the tubing under the MC where I couldn't see what I was doing and couldn't get the connections tight enough. (Even silicone brake fluid burns on a hot exhaust header!)

The tubing from the MC that runs to the front brakes (the one closest to the driver) goes to my 5-way union with the brake switch. I plugged the opening in the union that went to the rear brakes. The tubing from the MC to the rear brakes bypasses the 5-way union.
