Anyone have any experience/opinions concerning the use of Dynamat in healey doors? Will be installing new panels within the next few weeks so I am at decision time.

I have dynamat covering my floor , trans tunnel and fire wall to deaded sound and reduce heat. I can't really see much gain in putting it in your doors unless maybe you are puting speakers in the door panels it may take some vibration out. I can't see where it would hurt anything as long as if any water gets in the door it is able to drain out. It would add a little weight but I don't think it would have much affect on the hinges.Shop around online and you can pick up the dynamat much cheaper than some of the vendor advertised prices.

Thanks for the opinion. I already installed Kool Mat on the trans, firewall and floor. I may skip the doors, just thought they would feel more solid but a Healey is not a BMW.

Just a 1 foot square of Dynamat in the center of the door should help with any tinny sound. I'd use their regular stuff in the door as opposed to the extreme version. You could save some dough and role out some butyl between waxpaper. That is basically what Dynamat is. BTW, that stuff is a pain to remove.

Several months ago I stopped by British Car Specialist in Stockton CA and David Nock showed my a BT7 they had just finished a complete restoration. When I opened and closed the doors, I was amazed at how smooth and solid they felt and sounded. David explained it was a combination of getting the perfect alignment of the door, latch and hinges and also a bit of sound deadener inside the door. I don't know how much or what they used, but the results were amazing. When I do my car over, I will add dynamat inside each door.

Tproject, I've put Second Skin, which is like Dynamat, in my doors (BJ7)...and everywhere else for that matter. This car isn't on the road yet so nothing to report....but... I had used this on my BN7 doors and the results were amazing. Not only did the doors sound more solid, more importantly the road noise dropped noticeably. Not to mention that on a hot sunny day the doors have alot of surface area sucking up heat that helps warm the cockpit...not something you need more of!

Greg, Rob & Healey Passion your input turned me around. At the price of second skin I can't miss the opportunity of stripped open doors to put second skin in.
I will order it today.
