BJ7 Grill and Grill Surround from VictoriaBritish?

Hey guys,

The grille, grille surround, and grille radiator on the BJ7 I'm working on are pretty beat up and rusty. I was looking to have them straightened and re-chromed considering the cost of new ones....however, I just got a winter special catalog in the mail from VB and the grill surround is only $599.95! That's $400 off from the normal price!

My question is does anyone know the quality of these parts? I can't imagine I'd be able to have my parts fixed and re-chromed for much less than that.

Thanks,
Rasky

Hey Rasky,
Try AH SPares in the UK. Their website is : www.ahspares.co.uk

Their grille surround for a BJ7 or 8 is 280 pounds or about $460 US
with out shipping. That is for the premium quality chrome versus standard
which is 40 pounds cheaper. I have purchased door handles and hinges from
them in the premium chrome and been very pleased with the quality. Figure
about 20% to ship to you and probably still cheaper. I would think their
grill surround would be superior to VB but do not personally know that for a
fact. - who knows it could be from AH Spares.

Moss and VB get a lot of their small bits, chrome pieces, etc from AH SPares
as you will see many parts with their logo still on the bag or box.

BTW, I have no connection with AH Spares, just a satisfied customer.

Good luck,
Mike

I just checked the AH Spares sight on the grill. They only list one. About a hundred bucks less than Moss. I see nothing about a premium quality chrome. As I am in the market for a new grill for a BJ8 I would be interested in the best. This is only the grill, no surrounds.
I am not familiar with VAT charges???

VAT = Value Added Tax.

Don't worry about it, unless you're buying in person; VAT isn't charged on orders shipped out of the country.

Hey Rasky,
They list a Premium chrome part number for the surround but not the actual
grille. Their premium chrome is the "triple plated" quality that has been
discussed on the forum recently.
Regards,
Mike

Haven't checked for awhile but I remember over the Holidays Moss was offering free shipping on orders over $400.

I chose to have my grille parts replated as I am not at all happy with the general fit of aftermarket parts. I know the parts that were on the car fit well. I don't know if they were origional or not. The entire grille is a difficult part to fit to the car even when it fits ok. Have a good day!

I had the BJ8 surround replated for $180. Good job and it fit back on the car. I had to buy a new grill from AH spares. Mine had too many bent vanes. The replacement vanes don't quite look like the original if you were to replace some of the vanes. They do look like the original when in a new grill.

Isn't the grill itself anodized aluminum?
I believe you are correct. I did have mine "polished" and it came out looking reaaly great!

I've had to face these issues a few times in the cars I'm working on with the later vertical slat grille teeth. Try to repair and rechrome, vs. buying new reproduction grille parts. I have found that the grille teeth repros and the oval surround repros to be quite good. The upper brow however has been another matter. Too many repros are coming through with an uneven curvature to them. I'll try to explain. Holding the brow up level and looking at it straight on, the arc has been more to one side than the other, enough so that they will not fit without an obvious bad mismatch to the shroud aperture and an impossible fit to the oval upper lip.
In these cases we've elected to have the original upper brow rechromed, and installed the surround and teeth assembly that are repro parts.
While on the subject, always work your shroud metal to the grille assembly and test fit all before painting.

The grill on a BJ7/8 consists of individual stainless steel slats that are pop riveted. You may be thinking about an earlier model thats aluminum.

Thanks Guys!

I'll try and take some detailed pics tonight of the current pieces and see what you guys think about their condition and whether or not replacement is the best route.
