BJ7 Bonnet seal?

Is there a rubber bonnet seal similar to that applied to the boot? If so could someone explain which part it is attached to (bonnet or shroud), and any suggestions re. installation.

Also, if possible, could someone provide a photo/drawing showing the shape and installation direction of the correct seal. I have one which I purchased years ago and I'm not sure whether it goes on the bonnet or the boot so that I might, if necessary, order the correct one.

Thanks for any assistance.
Robert

Hi Robert,
The truck seal is a complete ring around the lid, different from the hood. The hood has a strip about 2 feet long on the left side (from driving position) shroud lip. There are a few small rubber buffers also around the edges. Check out John Loftus’ restoration site pages 7 and 11 for placement.

I think there is 3 along the right side and one on the carb side nearer the front. You should be able to see if you have some restoration books. You can also check on your shroud lip to see where there is a small hole for the split rivet to pass through. When I get back in town I'll double check for you and give you the length of the seal that goes along the carb area and diverts water from being sucked into the air filters.

Cheers,
John

Hello Robert,

There are 3 buffers on the passenger side and one on the drivers side. There is 26" long rubber strip on the drivers side also. There should be a factory hole for each of the 4 buffers, where the rivets held them in place. Note that the rivets heads are on the inside engine compartment side. I've taken some photos to help show correct placement.

I've also taken a photo of the boot seal. Notice that the seam meets at the latch. Also note the way the seal has a curve in the middle. I believe this to be the correct seal. Others may chime in on that.

Good luck,
Roger

Just to add a bit more info .. the concours guidelines say the pre-tricarb 6-port 6-cylinder cars used an 18" strip and had an additional rubber buffer. From the tri-carbs models on the strip is 26" long and the number of total buffers changed to 4.

Cheers,
John
