BJ7-BJ8 windshield seal cut

Just installed the windshield and bottom seal (after getting all the metal bits rechromed). I'm at the point where the pillars need to be attached. It seems obvious to cut the bottom seal along the red line shown in the image below so that I can mount the pillar and tuck the end of the seal below the door seal. I'm pretty sure this is correct but don't want to screw this up at this point /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif

Hello:

Just looking at this older post, and I appreciate the photo of the correct cut on the lower windshield seal for a BJ8.

To complete the install, I was wondering if anyone has a similar picture to illustrate where the now-cut rubber strip is properly placed with the windshield installed?

Andrew,

Let me see if I can describe it to you ...

The cut seal end drops down the gap between the wing and door. Then tuck the end (folding the seal near the end will give you more bulk) and stuff into the small opening at the upper inboard corner of the hinge pillar panel. This is up near where the wing attaches to the body. This keeps the end tucked out of the way so it doesn't bind with anything when you open/close the door.

Cheers,
John

Thanks John. That is pretty clear. Would you put on any rubber cement to keep it from flopping around?

Andrew,

I didn't glue mine. I just doubled it over and stuffed it in the hole. Seems to hold well enough but then again my car is still on jack stands! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/blush.gif
