Hi Gang, I was wondering if anyone has had a distributor rebuilt ? What I'm really wondering is who really rebuilds these the best ? I hope you all are doing well .

Jeff at Advance did my distributor last spring and my BJ8 has never run better. No connection but he is thorough, answers all questions, and in my case the work was done in the estimated time!! Last but not least I think his prices are a value. Beside my car he has recently done four rebuilds on cars that are in the local Healey club and the results were all positive.

Jeff at Advanced did mine for my BJ8 and the spare I had. For BJ8's he makes a mod to the timing/curve(not sure exactly what it is), for better running. He has 3 types of finishes available and all at the same price. I chose the polished finish. He has the RED rotors too! I also opted for the Top loader dist. cap. He supplies those with the plug wires. He also has the GOOD blue Bosch coils(there's differences in these coils depending upon where they're made). He will check your existing cap & wires if you send them to him. I think I paid about $125.00 for each Dizzy rebuild.

Didn't no body get a Pertronic upgrade when they Had Jeff rebuild their Dizzy???- :highly_amused:

Jeff did my BT7's distributor back in 2007 (with points), and have had no issues since. If I correctly remember, I had the distributor back in a week from when I sent it. Best money spent on my Healey in 40+ years of ownership.

He was posting extensively about this on the MG Forum a while back and feels the points & condenser are more reliable. He says the pertronix occasionally fail under normal usage.

Maybe points are more reliable if one can find a condenser that will last (or has an original or NOS). I've had zero trouble with pertronix' except where I've fried them by accident or through 'testing'.
