BJ-7 VIN number. Where is it?

After spending years on my car I will be able too drive it soon. Unfortunately, due to many reasons the title was lost and, as it hasn't been registered in 20 years, it is not in motor vehicle records system. Having the VIN (vehicle identification number) might help but I have no idea where on the car it might be.

Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Robert,

There was a plate on the firewall with the VIN (chassis number) near the voltage regulator but I'm sure you would have noticed that.
If you have the original motor number or body number you can have the British Heritage Trust cross check to find the VIN number. Also, you can check on the right front shock tower, under the paint for the chassis number. Most but not all BJ7's (and some other models, I hear) were stamped there. With the right front wheel off, look for the plate that the shock bolts on to. Then look for the small vertical surface facing you just below. It would be under the paint and can be quite faint so removing the paint with paint remover or lacquer thinner and rags (no sanding)will reveal the number if it is there.
