BJ-7 convertible top spring mount point

Hi Robert,
The tab for the spring is on the inside of the inner sill. 3½" from the wheel arch to the centerline of the tab hole. There are photos in this old thread.

This old thread mentions a picture of the lower mount point for the convertible top spring. But the photo is not there. Can anyone help with a photo of that area? I have the springs for each side, enclosed in black sleeves, and can see the upper mounting point on the convertible mechanism. But the lower mount points are missing on the BJ7.

I'm also wondering about how the inside quarter panels (the wood and metal pieces covered with vinyl) fasten to the body near the door openings. Any help is much appreciated.

I am up against it right now, but I will post some photos when get back, just looked through my 'portfolio' :excitement: but do not have exactly what you want, I will take a few. I will also enclose a copy of the sketch I made of the two lugs that I made for the lower spring connections. If that helps.

Poorly focused, but you can see on this BJ8 that the spring nearly parallels the door opening with the top frame in the raised position.

Given that this is hidden from view once the the trim is in place, I wouldn't sweat over a few millimeters fore and aft.

Remember that the BJ8 PII has the radius arm boxes, so may not be an exact representation of the BJ7, but I expect the design function to be similar.

Thanks everyone. Thanks for the photo Randy. The detail isn't enough to see what the bottom mounting point looks like. Maybe it doesn't matter much what it looks like. I assume that it is a small bracket welded or screwed to the inside edge of the sill? Greg, I don't see where you reloaded that photo?? Bob, your photos and diagram also would be very helpful.
 
I put the photo in the original thread I referenced in post #2 (fixed the link to that also). I'll attach it here too. I bought a tab that I welded to the sill from a metal supply store. It is different from the original tab here in the photo.

Another question for you BJ7 owners. Is the rear seat area, the part with the cutouts for the rear seat bottoms, covered with foam padded vinyl or with carpet? The new carpet set that we have does not have carpet for the area, although it has carpet for the vertical surface behind the front seat, etc.

Thanks for the help. I went out and mig welded in a couple of spring anchors. While the body panels all came off the car prior to repair and repainting, the inside of the car was not stripped to bare metal. The body was sound, and some unknown person in the past had coated the floors and other inner body parts with a black coating of some sort. I could find no sign of mounting brackets, so someone must have removed them and not replaced them. After grinding the coating off the areas where the brackets go, I welded in the brackets and sprayed a little paint on the areas.

Here's another question that everyone probably knows the answer to, except me. In the first photo below, can anyone tell me what that empty tubular hole next to the top end of the spring is for? This might be a good time to know the answer to that question before going too far with the top and interior installation.

Thanks for the pics and help, Bob and everyone else.

The BJ7 has the metal tongues projecting from the B posts, but the tongues have no holes drilled in them. No idea why not, but they soon will have new holes to fasten the quarter panels.

Putting this thing together is like a jig saw puzzle, one piece at a time. This project arrived in the garage two years ago. Whoever started the restoration did so a long time ago - possibly a few decades ago. It now runs and drives with rebuilt engine/drivetrain, new paint, exterior trim installed, convertible top on, electrical working, and the interior mostly done. Not that many more hours or days of work until it's done! Then, back to the BN4 project.
