My bad, Roger! It was the Glen in 1978 that I shot those... I claim age as excuse. Hunting now for other images, someplace I know there are images of Andretti's Lotus, Ronnie as his co-driver that season.

The ATS Ford only started in '77 in F-1, yet there it is. But Peterson didn't run in the '78 Glen, he'd died earlier, in September. Lotus 72D (?). by the time the '78 was run, the Lotus in the race was Andretti in a 79. ... now I'm totally confused!

Just looked it up:
"Norfolk based Lotus arrived in the States with the last two remaining 72s in existence for Ronnie Peterson and Brian Henton, with Henton using the cobbled together "F-spec" 72"

Nope. 1975 maybe, he drove for Tyrrell in 1977.

You were totally correct. 1975. It's all a blur now, I'd been to many of the Grands Prix at the Glen, missed the last one. Had a run-in with a Buick when departing for it in my GTV and couldn't get there.

It's the '75 running of the USGP. The #9 is Brambilla in the March, the #3 is Schecter in the Tyrell, and the 5 is Peterson.
Should add, I was there too. Lauda won it.

Thanks, Jay. I'm hunting the other images of that race, hidden in the stacks of unmounted strips of slides. Other years as well.

Race cars used to look so good. All that is missing is anything in Gulf colors.

I'll see if I have any shots of Gulf-color cars. I know I've some Brumos Porsche pix someplace, not sure if there were any Gulf sponsored entrants tho. Mid-Ohio races.

"He won 12 grands prix including four victories in 1978 for Ferrari, when he swept both U.S. races at Long Beach and Watkins Glen."
"After retiring from F1, he served two terms as governor of the Argentine province of Santa Fe and served in the Argentine senate from 2003 until his death."

Saw Mario drive his 79 lotus at the Monterey Historic a few years ago.
Did not hold back and I think I heard he set a new course record.
I'll never forget that sound.
