I never cared much for the ads, but the reality is it was all an act carried over from when he was pitching products at fares and other events.
Apparently he was on a USAir flight into Tampa that landed hard - hard enough to blow both tires on the nosegear. A local reporter talked to him afterwards and he said he was hit in the head by something that fell (presumably from the overheads), I guess that's how hard they hit! His wife said he went to bed not feeling well and this morning they found him deceased.
Maybe jumping the gun a bit but there are a lot of coincidences there.
Kind of sad - I know a lot of people detested the ads, but after watching his shows on Discovery I think he was probably a pretty nice guy. Those around him said he was a really warm quiet person off-camera.
