Biggest Home Project Yet

When we built our house, I laid the hardwood and all the tile. About 2,000 sq ft of hardwood and 1,500 sf of tile, the carpet guys did the rest. My back was killing me for a couple weeks after that. I used the tool illustrated above. I have no idea how the flooring guys do this week after week, year after year. It boggles the mind. I don't envy your job Basil, but I'll bet it's going to look great when it's done.

There are three of those guns and two compressors sitting in my kitchen right now. I'm glad that I'm not running them.

I used a mechanics floor slide to lie down on when I was punching the nail heads down and filling prior to sanding

Hey Scott,
You could always get some hair dye and match the cat to the house. :jester:

Oh dear.

VIDEO!!! :smirk:

Here is the progress so far:

Beginning to remove the tile at the entry way (decided to just have solid wool everywhere).

Making progress on getting the tiles up

entry3.jpg

Getting the tiles up was easy compared to getting the mastic off that holds the tiles to the concrete. I started using a manual chisel, but then got wise and started to use an air-powered chisel that I forgot I had!

Solid wool?? Now THAT would be interesting! :jester: Fits right in with Scotts decor

I'm getting tired just looking at that chisel and glue.

I reprogrammed the garage door openers on all of the cars this morning and thought it was time for a nap.

I'm with ya Paul! My ~good~ eye is aching just seein' that bare concrete. Did th' hovel in tile a few years ago. Knees ain't been th' same since. Somewhere there's a "plumber's crack" pic Horsemits took of me slavin' at it... ya don't wanna see.

...I'm headed fer th' couch now, anyway.

I hope the piano is not as hard to move as the one in our living room. When I moved it to this house, a piano moving company said they could do it with two people, over our protests that they needed at least three. After they came to pick it up, we had to wait 30 minutes for them to get two more people. Those old metal sound boards are really heavy.

Good luck with the project! (And I feel good when I get myself to dust and vacuum)

Our piano weighs a bunch! I will probably have to get some help to move it. My plan is to move it just enough to allow me to lay the flooring where the piano sites, them move it back. It's definitely going to be one of the more difficult aspects of this job.

Or just lay the new floor around it and be done...

Hour number three of two of those things going and it's getting closer to my office, so I may be going out for lunch or in for an ear exam.
