Bigger fuel tank?

Just wondering if its possible to put in a larger fuel tank in a bugeye. 7 gallons sure is small. Anyone tried putting in something larger?

7 gallons suits me to a tee. After close to 250 miles or so I get to drive it to the gas station and fill it up again. Sometimes I can't wait that long so I fill it when it gets to half full

150 and your out of gas? That means you are only getting about 21 miles to the gallon. What have you got in that thing?

A heavy right foot. mine is similarly equipped

I have the same problem, which is why I ask. My right foot thinks it should be driven like its stolen.

I had the same issue with Bugsy I and a 1098. 20-22 mph around town with a heavy right foot. On highway, steady state much higher mpg. Typical Bugsy run was a trip to Kroger's two miles away and back. Things never got really warned up unless I took the long was with a nice curvy road. Colleen always wondered why it took me so long to go 2 miles, well honey it was actually closer to 10 with pedal to the floor most of the way. But she would never understand that.

150 miles was about my safe range when I had the Tunebug (with a performance 1275). I'll likely do the later slightly larger later tank in Penny.

I personally never had a problem with the smaller tank. It gives you a much needed chance to get out and stretch. If you are going to go to the larger tank remember that the sending unit and guage are completely different and require a voltage stabilizer.

Even with my foot in it I get close to 30 in any of 4 spridgets. Highway mid 30's to over 40 depending on speed.

Are you guys running a radical engine, more tuning needed or nothing but around town???

Kurt.

Just around town, but been thinking about a road trip. Don't really want to worry about things if my road trip takes me on rural stretches of road that lack gas stations.

Well, I admit, that if I head to the west I'm going to be paying close attention to where I can get gas and distances between those places!

It's an issue out here for sure. A 200 mile range is pretty safe out here, but I've had motorcycles with only a 150 mile range and it can be a bit nervous sometimes. Not a fan of range anxiety.

When the Bugeyes raced at Sebring, they took two bugeye tanks and cut the tops off inside the flanges, flipped one on top of the other, and welded the two tanks together at the flanges, effectively doubling the capacity. They had to cut a hole in the boot floor for the second half of the tank to stick through, but no big deal, as the saying goes, "because racecar". They must have also welded in the fuel filler tube to the second tank because they filled it through the normal Bugeye hole in the boot with a flip-top filler lid.

You could always carry a couple of gallons with you for emergencies. That would get you another 60 or 70 miles down the road. My problem isn't finding a gas station for gas it is finding one to do natures business.

HWY and city, seems worse at highway speeds. It's not overly rich, maybe just a touch on the rich side but a jetting wouldn't yield any improvements. I tried 9 ways to Sunday with the Su's and it never got any better.

I'm getting to the age that "Nature's business" is one of the reasons I appreciate the small tank!!:highly_amused:

I was thrilled when I was able to get my Sprite to break 25 mpg on my last tank. I guess that's pretty typical. Most of my driving is zipping around back roads with a generous use of the right foot.
