Can anyone give me a hint for how to make the fitting of large rubber grommets into their respective holes easier? I'm specifically asking about the grommets for the demister and the fuel tank filler end. Would putting them in boiling water soften them up for easier manipulation?

I don't know if I would put them in boiling water but you can warm them up to help. I have put them out in the sun and coated them with silicon lubricant (o-ring grease) to help push grommets in before. I've even warmed wet towels in the microwave and them wrapped the grommets in them for a while. Don't use petroleum jelly as it will kill the rubber but silicon lubricant will work good. If you get the grommets about around 140 degrees you can't work with them anyway because they will simply be too hot to handle for very long.

The hardest one I've come across was the streering bushing in a TR8 - poly. Warm water and a lot of patience did the trick.
 
Soap them up and avoid chinese made rubber.
The correct rubbers fit soooo nice /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
