If Zep do actually decide to tour again, who here would pay to see them? Just about everyone, I would guess.

A Milwaukee venue would be doubtful, of course, and Chicago would be too over-priced for the likes of me to go and see them...

The only reason I would not is the price. I wanted to see three 3somes this year. Rush, Genesis and the Police. Great musicians that I have enjoyed listening to forever. I could not see putting at least $150 per ticket down to go see them. It seems that year after year, groups get back together for tours and they try and outdo the band that "raked in the bills" the year before. Imagine what the price of a ticket for Zep would be. Imagine then what a Pink Floyd ticket would be.

[Grandpa Simpson]Don't get me started on ticket prices![/Grandpa Simpson]

I've mostly given up on seeing live music if it involves going to any place bigger than, say, the Aragon in Chicago. Any artists I want to see at bigger venues typically have insane ticket prices, and often the best seats are sold out in blocks to the "ticket broker" services.

tHIRTY YEARS AG0 IT WAS 30 BUCKS. Pay the money- live the life GRAB THE OPPORTUNITY

I saw the "Farewell Tour" the Who put on at Giants stadium in 1982 (the Clash opened up). I still have 1 unused ticket $12.50 face value. I bet it's still worth about that much now.

Well, then. I'll go out on a limb here and guess that you were not at Celine Dion's final performane in Vegas:

"Tickets for the final show were for sale on EBay for as much as <span style='font-size: 17pt'>$1,899.</span>"

If John Lennon and George Harrison came back from the dead and the Beatles gave a final concert I'd not pay that kind of scratch for a ticket!

When I was 16-18 years old I lived outside Detroit. Many concerts were held in Detroit. Saw Kiss and Rush for 96 cents ( radio station promotion) Rolling Stones for $12.50, and many many others advertised for $4.50, $5.50, $6.50 and we did not have the money to 'upgrade" to the $6.50 tickets. Before we moved saw Pink Floyd at the Pontiac Silverdome in around 1987 - 1989 or so and tickets were a then astonomical $35 or so.

Kim, I just dug out a couple of old stubs, and found I paid $6.50 to see Frank Zappa at the IMA in Flint, May of '74, and a whopping seven bucks for the Eagles at Pine Knob in August of '75.

I don't recall what I paid to see Jimmy Hendrix at Mile High stadium in Denver shortly before he died, but it couldn't have been much else I could not have afforded it. I think I spent 6 0r 7 bucks to see 3 Dog Night.

Well, hang on to your hat. Tickets for that "Hannah Montana" thing in Chicago recently were going for upwards of a grand each. It was sold out! People actually missed mortgage payments to pay for the tickets so that their little sweeties could go scream themselves hoarse........

P.T. Barnum? How right the man was!

Oh, and speaking of Led Zeppelin, today I treated myself to the new double-CD/DVD set at Barnes and Noble. And they are on the cover of Rolling Stone. Very good article and interviews in there.

John Paul Jones is wearing his years well!

I sometimes wonder why Americans are so disliked.

My fee to go see Celine Dion's final Vegas show is in excess of $1899. One would need to hand over the keys to their new Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione (in black) as well.

There is a song, I forget by whom, exactly, about the Beatles big reunion concert at Shea Stadium. It ends up being a big production and the media covers it like they do natural disasters and such. The only line I recall is "I'm under the table at Shea Stadium!", which I've always tried to write a short story around.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Beatles and would have loved to have seen them live...but not for $1800 bucks! Nobody is worth $1800 bucks!

Jeff

I dug out a few stubs too.. my first big concert .. The Who .. in 1973 was $6.50
'74 Grateful Dead $5.50
'74 Eric Clapton $6.50 (and $7.50 later in the year)
'74 Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young $6.50
'74 Jefferson Starship $6.50
'74 Chic Corea and Larry Correll $5.50
'75? Johnny Winter $6.50
'76 The Who $8.75
'76 Grateful Dead $7.50
'76 Neil Young and Crazyhorse $7.50
'76 Robin Trower $6.50
'77 Led Zeppelin $9.50
'78 Neil Young and Crazyhorse $9.75

OK I saw the who almost ten years later and the price of the ticket almost doubled. That roughly 30 years ago. Double it each of those ten year and..

$6.50 in '73
$13.00 in '83
$26.00 in '93
$52.00 in '03
$110.00 in '13

Still not working out right sorry. No $1800 in ther. Even still $110 for a ticket would be a stretch for me. You know what I could buy for my MG's with $110. EASY NOW RUMHPERS! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Hey John we could fly to San Francisco for $45.00 round & hit Filmore for under $100.00
