Big healey propane conversion?

I would like to know if any of you have either heard of, researched or done a conversion from gas to propane in a big healey?

Thanks for any info you can provide.

Robert -

usually these conversions work pretty straight forward, but you would have to completely re-do the fuel delivery system as the SU carbs will not work with Propane. It is potentially a very expensive conversion.

My Healey is already green......

Any gas engine can be converted to propane if you want to dump a bunch of money in it, say close to a thousand dollars. But, why would you want to tear up a Healey to do this and last but not least, where would you carry the propane tank? You need at least an 80 pound tank or two 40s to be practical and you'd have to tear the trunk out to get it or them in there, if it would fit even then. Plus there are certain DOT regulations that have to be met. Not such a good idea for a Healey.

If you want to play with the idea, get an old 4 banger pickup, put a tank rack in the back bed and then get a used system from an old fork lift.

Couple of advantages of propane is that the engine runs so clean, you pretty much never have to change spark plugs.

Also, you can run the compression ratio much higher than a gasoline engine; with resulting increase in power & cleaner emissions.

Yes, fuel storage is a major syumbling block. Hence you usually see propane in industrial applications.

Just my $0.02.
