Yup -- they went that way so they wouldn't have to put a bulge in the bonnet for clearance.

Boy, I'd love to have one of those to scoot around in.
 
Wonder what the power difference is between that and the Wedge version.
 
While better than the 4 cylinder, the V8 certainly doesn't take the car into Cobra territory. In fact at less than 140 BHP, it would be lucky to keep a modern Honda Civic in sight.

True, though with those air intakes and no bulge in the hood at least you could keep it in sight for longer
 
Bill- think of the era.
Corvettes and Firebirds were only pumping out 180 horses
 
Low horsepower high torque, Rover power, took 5000 lb. Rovers everywhere. Can pull mean burn outs.
