Better water pumps

Is anyone aware of anyone selling an improved waterpump. The big 3 all sell the same kind with tht same impeller. I'm just curious whats out there. I know Raceorations sells an Hooked 6 bladed alloy impellor, I'm just wondering if there is anyone in the US selling something similar. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

British Frame and Engine must be re-selling the Racetorations parts. Racetorations There is just the aluminum impeller, aluminum waterpump and impeller, aluminum waterpump housing or the whole kit and kaboodle. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hi,

I bought an upgraded pump for my TR4 from British Frame and Engine. It's a very good item and, yes by the way, it is imported from Racetorations.

Ken Gillander at BF&E does import a lot of DKU's stuff. Basically, if you see it on the Racetorations site, you can get it from Ken (in So. Calif.) Ken can help you save on shipping and import duties.

I just tried to go to the BF&E website to see if he lists a similar water pump for the 6-cyl Triumph (I'm assuming from your avatar that you are askig for a TR6).

Can't get the BF&E website to respond right now. Dunno if the problem is on my end or his. But, just in case, I do want to note that the email link on his home page was incorrect for a long time, might still be. Send your emails to bfeken@copper.net (not to bfeken@copper.com where the link tries to route you). Or, just give him a call if you have a spare hour to talk Triumphs. Also, Ken is often not around the phone or his computer on Friday or the weekend. He's out at the races every chance he gets!

As already noted, for TR2/3/3A/4/4A Ken offers the impellor seperately, if you want to upgrade an existing water pump. Or, you can get a complete water pump with the upgraded impellor already installed (pulley not included). The alu housing is a separate item and is optional, as are alu pulleys for either thin belt conversion or for original 4 cyl wide belt. Exactly what's available might be different for 6 cyl Triumphs, though.

The email address on the web page has been fixed. I sent him an email earlier with some questions. Haven't heard back yet.

I forgot a couple things, the primary purpose of the special impellor with 6 curved blades is to reduce cavitation at high, racing rpms, which is a common problem with the stock water pump. The 6-bladed pump will work fine at lower rpms, but I'm not 100% certain it will do a great deal to solve other cooling problems during "normal" driving. On the other hand, it can't hurt, will most likely help at highway rpms, the housing is better finished than some of the other, less expensive, "standard" pumps I've seen. For example, on the 4 cyl model of Ken's pump, you won't have problems with the pulley dragging slightly on the housing, that is common with cheaper pumps.

Also (on the 4 cyl models for certain, maybe the 6 cyl too?) note that if you have a pump with a pressed-on pulley (i.e., no nylock nut holding the pulley in place), you'll need to get a complete replacement *and* a new pulley. Don't bother trying to rebuild/upgrade the pressed-on-pulley type of pump and the pulley's are not interchangeable.

Oh, and I just checked and it appears the email link on his home page is still wrong (it *says* the right address "copper.net ", but if you click it, it prefills your email form incorrectly with "copper.com "). That might be why you haven't heard back from Ken.

Actually I cut and pasted his email link so I think it went to the right place. But if I don't hear back by tomorrow then I will have to send it again making sure its the right one. Thanks for the heads up.
