Hello all. I just happened upon this forum, and there is a TON of useful information!!

I am restoring a '59 bugeye (currently taken apart) and want to put in 1275 motor/transmission and disk brake conversion. There is a midget for sale near me but the owner died and they don't know the year (they think either '74 or '75). I know that I want a 1275 engine, but wanted to make sure that I get the right one. Is there a big difference between years '66 to '74? And which year is the best?!

I wanted to know what to look for before I head out to see it. If '74 is a good year for this engine, can I tell that it was a 74 or older if it doesn't have rubber bumpers? I found this thread https://www.britishcarforum.com/bcforum/u..._127#Post613605 which helped a lot, but thought the more I know the better.

Thanks for everyone's help.

'67 is the ideal year. '68 and above has air injector port. After '69 I believe compression rations were dropped. Something about the cranks in early 1275s is supposed to be good as I recall.

Rubber bumper has a 1500 engine, not for a Bugeye.

Yes, if it doesn't have rubber bumpers, it's a 1275 - and, if the price is right, there are lots of go fast parts. In lots of ways the best 1275 is the closest, freshest, least expensive engine - likely in that order.

BTW welcome, you're in the right place!
