best way to clean a canvass top?

Anyone got any suggestions on the best way to clean a canvass top. I just installed one that was a takeoff from another car. It's been sitting around the shop for a couple of years and is a little dirty, but otherwise in excellent condition. It is grey in color so it shows the dirt. Almost looks like a super faded black top. Not my first color choice, but it was free. Can it be dyed black, or is that pushing it?

On my 76 spit, I used some Simple Green, it worked pretty good and I did not have any discoloration from it.
Also used some "wizards, black renew" on it after the cleaning.
As always, test in a small area.
