TR6 Best place to order transmission parts

Going to start to compile a list tonight to place an order for transmission rebuild parts. I've read there are different quality parts out there like synchros. What about bearings and etc. I'm going to need all synchros, bearings, counter and reverse shafts, all gear bushings and possibly 3rd gear. Take a look at the pic which has 1 chipped off synchro tooth. I'm thinking 1 tooth is no big deal?

One broken tooth might not be so bad, but from what I can see, the points on the other teeth are pretty well ground off as well. That may make it hard to shift into 3rd gear.

There was a big batch of bad synchro rings made (the number I heard was 100,000) but that was a long time ago. It quickly became apparent that Moss, TRF & VB were all selling the same parts. Lots of theories as to what the problem actually was (eg wrong angle on the tapered clutch face, or legs that were too short), but I don't know that anyone actually proved anything. But hopefully, all of that batch of rings are gone now. My point is just that it seems that everyone sells the same parts when it comes to gearbox hard parts.

Be sure to carefully check the fit of the new bushings for the constant gears. They are supposed to be fully floating, not a tight fit on either the shaft or the gear. Last time I went through this, most of the ones I got were too short (actually narrower than the gears!), but one was too tight on the shaft. Also don't overlook checking the detent forces, both for the shift rails and the shift hubs.

One more tip, the seals sold for the shift rails are usually too small for the cavity, resulting in leaks. McMaster-Carr sells "backup rings" that fill the gap nicely. Unfortunately I've forgotten the size and can't find the order, so you'll have to measure for them.

When I replaced the bearings in a TR4 trany, I took them down to a store that sold bearings and they cross referenced them to made in the USA bearings which were much cheaper than the ones from England. You might want to check that out.

Good used parts is the way to go. Talk to Scott Harper, he may have what you need, be sure to read about the differences in some of the early and late gears and or syncro hubs in TR6 boxes. TRF has an excellent write up in their TR6 parts books and perhaps on line as well. Maybe Buckeye Triumphs as well. Most bearings can be sourced at a local bearing house with perhaps the exceptions of the caged roller bearings for the layshaft and the input shaft. For certain good used brass is the way to go if you can find them.

I checked the Local Applied Bearings and they want $80 each for the big main shaft case bearings. That's outrageous. anyway maybe Friday Ill check with Scott at Team Triumph. He is who I bought the tranny from anyway. On Monday I'll be traveling where there is a Motion Industries outlet.
