JP's post got me thinking (& looking up "Completed Items" on Ebay).
I've got a lot of '60's/'70's unbuilt plastic model kits that I bought new,& after
seeing what they're going for,think that it might be time to sell,as well as ALL
the misc. stuff in the garage.
Again - Where's the best place to sell it,& when's the best time to start/-
stop the sale?

I do like Ebay - though you will have to deal with fees, shipping and idiots.

Another though though is model shows. I have a friend who makes gorgeous models and, every time I have gone to see them, there have been vendors selling old models - just figure out how much they sell for (the completed listing search on ebay) and don't love them too much - sometimes it is just better to have them gone.
 
Oh, and somewhere else I read that the best time to end an auction is Sunday night - as that is when people are browsing.
 
Best time to sell is when you don't need money.

eBay takes too much in fees and has rigged the game now to protect only the buyer.

I buy on eBay all the time. When I've sold there, I've never felt like it was worth it in the end.
 
I agree eBay is a buyers market. Last I checked between ebay and Paypal it's about 15%. Then you gotta box it up and ship so cover ship cost. If there is a problem the buyer is right so describe carefully, you don't want bad feedback. I usually start auction style with the least amount I can stand to take, keeping in mind shipping which really is part of the price. I close auctions Sunday night thinking everyone is home and USPS small stuff, Fed X big stuff. Picture quality important, sorry Doug, very important.
I'm seldom surprised by a larger than expected bid however the last run through the house gathering up stuff I don't use added up and paid for a bike. Didn't need the Japanese flute or sterling letter opener anyway and doubt they would have sold on Craigs list.

I have several models including the Doepke MG TD (called an MT) and an XK 120. They are over a foot long and have springs, etc.
 
If you do a search for vintage model kits you'll find a number of guys who buy complete collections. Never dealt with one but might be worth seeing if they'll give a quote.
 
E-bay is still a good way to reach a broad market, and get a quick sale and a good price. But I remember the good old days when the fees were around three percent (I may be off a bit, but it was much less than it is now, where, as stated it seems like it end up being about 15%, and now they charge the fee on your shipping too.

On the other hand, taking stuff to a show--I have never done a model show, but have done others, you do have to bring all your stuff, spend the whole time, usually half a day sometimes all day, there, and at the end of the day you probably won't have sold everything.

You might test the waters with Craigslist, smaller market, but free to list and sell, and no shipping.
